Our club honored nine winners with cash awards on May 19th, 2010 at our "Non-Profits Community Service Awards" ceremony held in Boca Raton at the Atrium building. Each year, members of our Soroptimist International of Boca Raton-Deerfield Beach club invite local non-profit organizations to submit applications for consideration to receive monetary awards. "Our mission is to raise money and donate money to financially needy organizations and individuals, locally and internationally, for the benefit of women and girls" announced Soroptimist President, Kim Champion. Event Chairwomen, Judi Levy, introduced nine 2010 finalists, honored at the May 19th ceremonies. Winning agencies included the following: American Association of Caregiving Youth, headquartered in Boca Raton; Women's Circle of Boynton Beach; Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, based in Palm Beach County; Florence Fuller Child Development Center of Boca Raton; Twin Plams - Boca Society for the Disabled; Horse and the Handicapped; Boys and Girls Clubs of Boca Raton; Coalition to End Homelessness; and the "SeniorComp Program" at the Nova Southestern University Fischler School of Education and Human Services. A sampling of services supported this year included child care, research, and tutorial programs for youth, seniors, and handicapped individuals.
